Welcome Genetic Counselors
Genetics is an important component of organism development. Errors within your genetic information can cause changes in your physical appearance or cause genetic disorders. Watch the following video about albinism in this family.
As you see, it is important to understand the genetics involved with development. Many individuals are carriers of genetic disorders, so many adults will consult a genetic counselor during family planning.
Today, you will be playing the role of one of those genetics counselors. Throughout this activity, you will learn about dominant and recessive genetic disorders, probabilities of outcomes while determining a couple's chances of having a healthy child, and creating educational resources regarding a genetic disorder. You will be expected to complete a series of Punnett squares and conduct research on select genetic disorders.
